Chestnut whorls abound, upon which the eye settles.
An ember sparks with a start.
Sepals of crimson, embroiling yet alluring.
Barbed yet supple, one's judgement close to erring.
Flame dancing within the heart.
Stem coiled and curved, an elegance of the stage.
Waves of smooth umber, hold candescence like a cage.
An awkward touch to impart.
Wrap, wreathe and revolve, bare the orchestra of spears.
Frostbitten thorns strike those who abandon all fears.
Leaves becometh a rampart.
Hoarfrost and frostburn, virulence now unveiled.
Queen of ice assaults, admirer assailed.
The nascent warmth rent apart.
And with the fool's flight, spines of rime rescind and close.
Subtle warmth returns, mayhap the melting of floes?
Not 'til the year does depart.
Danger now absent, new buds unfold and entice.
And vulnerability shows buried deep within the ice.
